Impossible Spectroscopy?

Hitherto difficult or impossible measurements in the UV and visible regions have been achieved using fibre optic diode array spectrometry and applications engineering from Astranet Systems Ltd.

According to MD Mike Mills, "Diode array and fibre optic technology can yield a physical measurement, but we can go further, with the ability to add customised software or specially developed electronics and provide a total solution."

The astonishing versatility of fibre optic sample access allows measurements to be taken in locations that would normally be impossible.

Says Mills: "We have developed systems to handle some pretty unusual problems, and welcome enquiries from anyone for whom conventional UV-Vis technology is not delivering the results they need. What surprises most people is how cost-effective these solutions can be"

Novel Applications

Examples of some novel applications include:

• Absorbance measurements inside a calorimeter cell.

• Incident light measurements in the sea 30m below the surface.

• In -situ measurements in boiling liquids.

• In line reaction monitoring, at concentrations a thousand times too high for conventional instrumentation.

• Following transients in a flow cell, recording 1000 spectra a second.
